Tacticon 2009 and Caesar's Gallic War
Between the brand new job and lack of exciting events on Sunday, I opted for a bunch of singleton passes ($3 per game) and played a handful of games on Saturday.
I tried to get into Small World but arrived just a little too late (I overslept, then had to run to the post office - suck). However, I was able to hop into a game of Ticket to Ride: Europe which was fun, though I didn't do so well.
After a lunch break I played a quick game of Ra: The Dice Game which was quick and fun, followed by two games of Railroad Tycoon. The 2nd game was unplanned, but I had the time, so decided to play again as filler. I did alright, but no victories. I also learned that I would rather not play this as a 3 player game. It's probably best with 5, actually.
Shortly after that I finally played History of the Roman Empire, which is a Roman themed variant of History of the World, with a few interesting variations. While I won (yay!) I'm undecided about the game overall. It's a bit long and a little too luck driven for my tastes, but not bad.
After all that I finally got home and discovered that my personal copy of Caesar's Gallic War had arrived! I quickly opened it up and looked at the components and thumbed through the rulebook a bit. It looks absolutely fantastic!
